LunchLearn-OfficeofDevelopmentalSupports.docx

Hello Talbot Families!

You are invited to join us for a virtual Lunch & Learn with the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) Office of Developmental Supports (ODS) to learn about supports and services available for eligible Allegheny County residents.

Do you have a student with:

  • Intellectual Disability (ID)
  • Autism
  • Developmental Disability (DD) prior to age 9
  • Medically Complex Condition (MCC) prior to age 22

If so, this session will help you understand how ODS registers eligible individuals and connects them to Supports Coordination (SC) and other valuable supports and services.

PA Family Network (PAFN)

Supporting students with disabilities is a shared partnership, and access to reliable information and family-centered supports is an important part of that work. I would like to share several upcoming trainings, workshops, and support groups offered by the PA Family Network (PAFN) that may be helpful to you and your family.

PAFN is a statewide resource that supports families and self-advocates by providing education, connection, and tools for person-centered planning, including Charting the LifeCourse (CtLC). These opportunities are created by family members and self-advocates, for family members and self-advocates.

While participation in these events is completely optional, many families find them valuable for understanding systems, planning for the future, and connecting with others who share similar experiences.

Direct links to learn more about and register for these sessions are available on the PAFN events page listed below.

PEAL Pathways to Adulting Program

A New Youth Program in Partnership with the United Way of Southwestern P.A.

The PEAL Center is starting a virtual program in partnership with the United Way of Southwestern PA around transitioning to adulthood. This a stacked program where youth can participate in one, several, or all components. Each piece reinforces the others, and all are designed using familiar PEAL tools such as leadership activities, self-awareness exercises, goal setting, communication skill practice, and transition planning checklists.
