Setting up Microsoft Office 365 District Email

A brief introduction, followed by instructions for access email via the Web, smart phones and Outlook computer clients are below.


Office 365 includes Outlook email along with Microsoft Office, OneNote and other web applications. The first benefit of having your mailbox on Office 365 is that you are allowed 50GB of storage.

Instructions for accessing email:

For Web-based Email

Login to the District’s Rapid Identity Connect Portal to access Office 365 by going to https://connect.htsd.k12.pa.us/ and login with your username (first part of your email address before the @) and password.

When first logging in to Microsoft, you may see a notice asking if this is a work or school account. Please select the Work or School account created by your IT department option.

Alternatively, you can go directly to web mail by going to https://outlook.office365.com, and logging in with your email address and password.

Once in the Microsoft Office 365 site, select the Outlook link.

For Smart Phones

If you check your email on an iPhone or Android phone, the easiest way to resolve problems is to remove the existing account and re-add it.  On both platforms you would go to your settings, accounts, and remove the existing account.  Then re-add it.  When asked what kind of account, select Exchange.  When prompted, provide your email address.

  • On an iPhone, simply select Sign In (no need for manual settings), and provide permission to your mailbox.
  • On an Android phone, select Manual Setup, and change the server to outlook.office365.com, and accept the prompts.

Alternatively, on both platforms, you can download the free Outlook app.  When configuring it, provide it your email username and password.

Here, Microsoft provides a good set of instructions for setting up email on mobile devices.

Outlook on the Mac

If you already have Outlook configured on your Mac, you will need to make some configuration changes.  Open Outlook, select the Tools menus, and Click Accounts.  You will want to make sure you change your username field to your email address.  Then click the advanced tab.  Make sure the server URL is set to https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx .  Then close the accounts windows.  You should be prompted for your password and for permission.

Outlook on the PC

Sometimes the PC just needs a reboot to start working.  Problems beyond this will require help from the technology staff.
