On Friday, March 31, Hampton students and staff are hosting two events designed to raise awareness and support the community and beyond.
Hampton Middle School will host a staff-versus-students charity basketball game to benefit Will Pilarski, a Central Elementary School third grade student who has been battling medullobalstoma, a form a brain cancer. The big game kicks off at 3:15 p.m. in the Hampton Middle School gymnasium. Prior to the start of the game, attendees will have the opportunity to stop by the concession stand to purchase a variety of snacks and beverages.
A variety of themed baskets will be raffled off as part of the event. Tickets for the baskets can be purchased at three for $1, five for $3 and 10 for $5 until halftime, when the winners will be drawn. The baskets include items such as gift cards, games, movie night items and sports items. The baskets are being donated by the Middle School and Central Elementary School staff and PTOs, and a few local businesses. All proceeds from the concessions, raffle and ticket sales will benefit the Pilarski family.
During the halftime break, Mrs. Marlynn Lux, HMS Acting Principal, will recognize the Pilarski family and announce the winner of the 50-50 raffle.
“We are honored to hold this event for the Pilarski family,” said Mrs. Lux. “Please join us as we support the Pilarski family during this difficult time.”
Tickets for the game are $2 in advance and $3 at the door.
At the High School, students and faculty will join hundreds of schools and the Four Diamonds movement to help conquer childhood cancer by hosting Mini-THON 2017 from 4:30 to 11:15 p.m. Doors will open at 3:30 p.m. for check in. Games for students will be available during the hour-long check-in period prior to the official kick off in the auditorium. The Student Council once again is hosting the event. Student Council representatives said the goal for this year is to raise more than last year’s final tally, which was $31,395.67. The estimated total raised this year will be announced at 11:15 p.m.
The public is invited to stop by the event between 3:30 and 5 p.m. to help support the cause by purchasing raffle tickets for a number of unique gift baskets donated by local businesses and other organizations. A complete list of all baskets to be raffled off that evening is available here.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Four Diamonds, a nonprofit organization dedicated to conquering childhood cancer by assisting children who are treated at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital and their families through superior care, comprehensive support and innovative research. Four Diamonds provides direct support to approximately 600 children with cancer annually - 100 who are newly diagnosed and 500 who are continuing their fight against cancer. Four Diamonds supports a diverse platform of childhood cancer research at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital, and seeks improved treatments and cures to benefit those around the world.
