HMS Robocruisers Earn Second Place in Scholastic Division
The Robocruisers participated in their first competitive scrimmage for FLL (First Lego League) on Saturday, Dec. 3 at Aquinas Academy and earned second place in the Scholastic Division. The challenge this year is "Animal Allies" and is all about our furry, feathered and finned friends.
Students participated in four rounds of the table game attempting to complete as many missions as possible while earning points. Students designed and programmed their robot to perform and attempt as many missions as possible.
Previously, The Robocruisers participated in an educational scrimmage at Pine Richland in November, where they gained valuable insight into the missions and interacted with other schools and professionals from Carnegie Mellon who volunteered as judges.
In the 2016 FIRST LEGO League Challenge, more than 28,000 teams of students age 9 to 16 will look into the eyes of our ANIMAL ALLIES. What might become possible when we learn to help each other?
Students also are busy preparing for the Grand Championship Challenge, scheduled in mid-January at La Roche College, in which they will run their missions at the table and present their research project dealing with human interaction and animals.
Students have been meeting and working together as a team after school to solve the various missions. This activity is sponsored by HMS and Miss Cohen, the Enrichment Facilitator.
