HMS German Students Experience Lesson in Schultueten
These students are proudly displaying the "Schultueten" that they won in a drawing in their German I class recently. The students learned about various school traditions in Germany and how to talk about their school experiences in German.
This particular tradition is for parents to buy or make the "Schultuete" cone and then fill it with school supplies, snacks, treats and a note and present it to their child. A picture is then taken for the scrapbook for posterity.
"This activity dovetailed nicely with the students' 8th grade English class, in which they read the novel Friedrich, about a Jewish boy in Nazi Germany. The Schultuete tradition is mentioned in the book," said HMS German teacher Ms. Pauline Spring.
The HMS German classes made and then filled a total of ten Schultueten, which were then awarded through a drawing.
