We are pleased to introduce Family Connection, a service designed especially for students and families for students in grades 8-12. Family Connection is a comprehensive website that you and your child can utilize to assist in developing plans for courses, colleges, and careers. Family Connection is linked with Naviance Succeed™, a service that we have begun to use in our school district to track and analyze data about college and career plans.
Family Connection will allow you and your child to:
- Get involved in the planning and advising process – Build a resume, complete online surveys, and manage timelines and deadlines for making decisions about colleges and careers.
- Research colleges – Compare GPA, standardized test scores, and other statistics to actual historical data from our school for students who have applied and have been admitted in the past.
- Research careers – Research hundreds of careers and career clusters, and take career assessments like the Do What You Are® test.
- Create plans for the future – Build course plans, create goals and to-dos, and complete tasks assigned to you by the school to better prepare yourself for your future college and career goals.
Grade eight students will begin to utilize the program through their Career Awareness class.
2013 College and Career Expo - Link Into Your Future
The Link Into Your Future College and Career Expo on Oct. 8, 2013 was met with great success. Approximately 350 parents and over 430 students were in attendance.
Twenty-two professionals from varying career paths presented to the students, who rotated through three sessions of their choosing. Mike Thompson, a consultant with the Pennsylvania Department of Education, provided parents with relevant statistics and tools to assist in college and career planning. A panel of post-secondary representatives also provided information for parents.
The middle and high school career committee would like to thank all of those who helped provide a wonderful opportunity for our community! The PowerPoint used during Mike Thompson’s presentation is available below, as well as other handouts provided to parents at the event.
