Full Year (five days per week)
The Wellness I curriculum is structured so that students will be introduced to and given the opportunity to explore current health issues that impact members of their age group. The focus of this class will cover the issues of substance abuse, sex education, growth and development, intentional/unintentional injuries, relationships, dating, friendships, and nutrition. This course will also focus on muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular and flexibility activities.
Semester (four days per week)
Wellness 2 is a required, one semester course, for all Hampton High School Juniors. Basic First Aid procedures covering burns, splinting, poisons, head and neck injuries, and fractures will be introduced. Upon successful completion of this class, students will receive certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and in the use of the Automatic External Defibrillator as well as receiving instruction and demonstration of basic strength and cardiovascular exercises. Assessment of Classroom activities and Physical Activity are done separately, but equally. Tests, Classwork, Homework, and other activities comprise classroom assessment. Physical Activity assessment contains changing for class, participation, and attitude.
