Art and Design

ART HISTORY                                      
Semester
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                                                                 

This class will present a survey of the history of art from cave paintings to conceptual art.  Participation does not assume prior knowledge of art education or studio art.  This class will present basic information about important periods and movements in art history.  Through the use of a timeline, noting the significant historical events which shaped the art world and The Annotated Mona Lisa, a Crash Course in Art History from Prehistoric to Post-Modern by Carol Strickland, Ph.D., students will gain a working knowledge from which to form their judgments.

HONORS SENIOR STUDIO ART

Grade 12                                                                                                             

The objective of this course is to develop and complete a senior portfolio for college admission.  The goal of majoring in art in college is not expected.  The learner will focus on the development of technique, craftsmanship and quality incorporated in his or her area of concentration.  All members of the class will work and think as artists while completing individual and group work throughout the year.  Independent projects with personal contacts will be important aspects of this course. 

ART AND DESIGN                            
Semester
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                                                                 

Art and Design serves as a basic foundation and complement to any art course.  This course is designed for students interested in developing artistic interest.  Students will utilize their individual visual expression with the art elements:  line, shape, volume and form.  Artistic problem-solving solutions will be accomplished using pencil, ink, markers, paint and computers.  The course will serve as a strong foundation in composition and design fundamentals.  All levels of ability are welcome.
