Community Service is required of all students in Grades 9 through 12 as the basis for the Graduation Project. Expectations for this component of the High School experience are communicated and facilitated by a student's social studies teacher each year.
The experience enriches students by encouraging and supporting opportunities for them to explore, acquire and apply skills as well as examine their strengths and interests in a reflective way. For the community partner, this program may help to increase its capacity to provide and expand services while providing students a time and place in the real world to engage in responsible actions for the common good.
Students will choose, plan and participate in a minimum of 10 hours of community service annually. Focusing on a specific area each year is suggested. For example, students may consider fields such as health, environment, human needs, technology, etc.
All students will account for and assess the experience with their Social Studies teachers.
