Pardon Our Pride . . .

At Hampton High School, real-world learning is brought into the classroom on a daily basis. The school’s application of the Rigor, Relevance and Relationship Framework has caught the attention of other schools nationwide, which have sought to replicate the success experienced at Hampton. Some examples of how our students have excelled over the last year can be found here.

Nominations Accepted for 2019 Hampton Heroes
Posted 09/03/2019 07:00AM

Are you a Veteran of the U.S. Military? Do you know a veteran in our community?

Nominations now are open for the 2019 Hampton Heroes program, which will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at Hampton Middle School. If you live in Hampton, work in Hampton, are a graduate of Hampton High School or a relative of a current HTSD student, we urge you to complete the Hampton Heroes form. Online nomination forms are available here. If nominating a veteran via the online nomination form, please email or mail via USPS accompanying photos to berg@ht-sd.org or Hampton Heroes Nominations, c/o Shari Berg, Hampton Township School District, 4591 School Drive, Allison Park, PA 15101. Photos also can be dropped off at the District Administrative Offices in person.

Since 2001, local Veterans who have completed and returned the form, are invited to be honored guests at a program at one of our schools on Veterans Day.  More than 200 Hampton men and women have been inducted as Hampton Heroes and recognized at the Veterans Day program.

From the information on the forms, mini-biographies are collected and reproduced in a spiral-bound booklet which each inductee receives.  The stories and photos veterans (both combat and non-combat) share through the booklet, teach Hampton students valuable lessons about service, duty, and sacrifice. Nominations are due by Oct. 7, 2019.

In addition to inducting veterans into our Hampton Heroes program, the District also is participating in Operation Recognition, a program that authorizes school districts to grant high school diplomas to veterans who missed their own graduations while in service to their country. During times of war, many enlisted and were serving their country, while their classmates were marching in commencement ceremonies back home. Now, those veterans are being given a second chance to earn their diplomas through Operation Recognition.  The program initially was authorized by the Pennsylvania Legislature under Act 14 of 1949 to allow World War I veterans to be awarded diplomas, and later amended to include veterans of WWII, Vietnam and Korea.

Veterans who qualify for Operation Recognition can receive their HTSD diplomas as part of the 2019 Hampton Heroes program. Learn more here
