Voting Meetings

After discussions at Work Sessions, the Board decides to approve, reject, table, or amend items on the monthly agenda of the Voting Meeting.

Executive Sessions

In order to discuss sensitive issues, the Board may conduct an Executive Session, which is not open to the public.  These matters may be discussed in an Executive Session:  employment issues; labor relations;  purchase or lease of real estate; consultation with an attorney or other professional advisor regarding potential litigation or identifiable complaints that may lead to litigation; or matters that must be conducted in private to protect a lawful privilege or confidentiality.  Any action based on discussions during an Executive Session, is taken at a public meeting.

Reorganization Meeting

Each December, the Board of School Directors conducts a Reorganizational Meeting.  At that meeting:  newly elected or re-elected members are sworn in; directors elect members to serve as President and Vice-President.  Each of these are one-year terms, though directors may be re-elected that following December; the new President determines a schedule of meetings for the year and assigns directors to chair Work Sessions.  This may occur at the Reorganization meeting or in the subsequent weeks.

Public Comments at Board Meetings:

The Board of Directors of the Hampton Township School District welcomes comments from visitors, who are invited to address the Board at the beginning of the meeting.  Speakers are asked to limit their comments to three to five minutes and, if multiple speakers are addressing the same topic, the Board asks that collective remarks be limited to 15 to 20 minutes.  The Board will not discuss personnel matters in public. Guidelines for public participation are available here

The Board holds a regularly scheduled work session for the purpose of examining proposals and recommendations made by the staff, public, legal counsel, consultants, or the Board. This process ensures a thorough review of all items before they are placed on the voting agenda. The public is encouraged to attend the Board Work Session.
