School Closure Update - 4/9/2020
Posted 04/09/2020 03:46PM

April 9, 2020

Dear Hampton Families:

This morning we received notice from the Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, Pedro Rivera, that all public schools shall remain closed through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year, as defined by local school calendars. While we are disappointed that we will not be able to welcome our students back to school this year we, understand the importance of student, family, and community safety during this unprecedented pandemic.

The District will continue to utilize our Remote Learning Days through the end of the academic school year. While we intend to continue to focus on student learning, we recognize the need to balance this with the challenges of online learning for our students, families, and faculty during this unsettling time. We will continue our popular Paws Days every Wednesday, to enable students to engage in make-up assignments or receive teacher guidance on assignment completion.  In addition, we are in the process of finalizing a pass-fail grading plan that we will announce next week that will be utilized for the 4th quarter of the school year.  We are carefully and thoughtfully developing a pass-fail grading plan that is appropriately tailored to meet the needs of our Hampton students at all grade levels.

We recognize that this announcement by Secretary Rivera raises many questions about the special events we typically associate with the end of the school year here at Hampton. Rest assured that our leadership team was already considering the possibility of an extended closure and we have begun planning alternate ways to handle the challenges of these events during a closure of this nature. In the days and weeks ahead, we will be sharing details of our planning for the events affected and we will work with our school community to develop appropriate ways to celebrate our students and their accomplishments.

Over the last four weeks our families, faculty and staff have all made a remarkable effort to support our students in their remote learning and we cannot thank everyone enough for their hard work. It is a tribute to the entire school community that our students have been able to continue their learning every day during the closure to date. We now recognize the challenge of sustaining these efforts through the end of the school year.  In order to do this effectively we will continue to need to work together and support each other on behalf of our students.  I have tremendous faith in our ability to do this exceedingly well but we will need to reach out to help each other through the unforeseen challenges that lie ahead.

Please enjoy a peaceful Spring Break with your family members and we look forward to having your students back with us next week.

Stay healthy, safe and strong.
