At the February 5 School Board meeting, the Board announced the establishment of a committee to further explore later school start times.
The small committee will consist of District leadership and one to two board members to research further whether later start times at Hampton would be to the academic benefit of students. The committee will interview stakeholders involved in the process. If the committee determines later start times would be beneficial, then the steps involved in implementing later start times at the high school will be explored and that information will be reported back to the Board for consideration.
The committee is in response to a January 22 presentation in the District by Dr. Peter Franzen, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at UPMC School of Medicine, on the benefits of later school start times. Dr. Franzen's PowerPoint Presentation is available here.
