Sport physicals are required for all students grades 7 - 12 only. All students who will be participating Club Sports grades 7 - 12 are also required to have a physical and complete the paperwork and return it to the Athletics Office in the High School. Winter and spring sports physicals will be scheduled on a later date.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) has changed its requirements for participation in interscholastic athletics. All students interested in participating in athletics at Hampton High School (grades 9 - 12) or Middle School (grades 7 - 8) for the 2010 - 2011 school year are required to undergo a comprehensive physical evaluation for participation in his/her first sport of the school year. All sports physicals are good from one school year. Sports physicals for the 2010 - 2011 school year must be administered and dated June 1, 2010 or later and will be valid until May 31, 2011.
To be eligible to play a sport during the 2010 - 2011 school year, a physical is required before the start of the sport season a student will be participating in. Fall sports start August 16, Winter sports start November 19 and spring sports start March 7, 2011 (February 7, 2011 for girls Jr. High volleyball). Example: if a student participates in a fall sport, he/she will not need another physical if they will be participating in a winter or spring sport. A parent or guardian will need to complete a Re-certification for Sports Participation form (Section 5) and an emergency card prior to the start of the season. If a student is injured, he/she will receive a letter from our Athletic trainer stating that he/she will need another physical. Section 6 is the form needed for the physical and an emergency card must be completed.
All forms must be sent directly to the Athletics Office, not the coach or the Middle School office, prior to participation. Physicals turned in at the last minute may result in the student not being permitted to practice or to participate in tryouts. Such delays may result in a loss of tryout time or perhaps losing the opportunity to tryout completely. Once the physical is turned into the Athletics Office and reviewed for satisfactory completion, the student will be granted permission to participate in athletics. When a student-athlete has a desire to participate in a sport that has roster reductions or cuts, it is imperative that they have all of their paperwork submitted in a timely fashion.
For students who will be going to their own physician for a physical, the exam must be administered and dated after June 1, 2010 and will be good until May 31 of the following year. If the date on the form is incorrect, the physical will be returned and the athlete will be ineligible to participate until the physical is dated properly. We cannot accept any physical paperwork that is not provided on the PIAA or Hampton Athletic Website. Forms will be provided in the Middle School, High School and Athletics Office.
