When I click on the envelope icon in the Staff Directory I can’t send an email.  What should I do?
Email links in the directory, represented by an envelope icon, are designed to prevent our addresses from being harvested and used by automated spam systems.  The HTSD Technology Department is looking at options to make this easier for individuals with legitimate intentions, but presently, there is no alternative in place.  As options are made available, they will be added to the FAQ section.  In the meantime, below are some “work-around” solutions. (TOP)

•    Use the Parent Portal to reach teachers.  Parents who cannot send email through the website directory are reminded that most teachers can also be contacted by using the Messenger Service within the Parent Portal.
•    Use the most likely address.  While not true for every account, most District email addresses are in the lastname@ht-sd.org format and, in the case of employees having the same last name, email addresses are in the lastnamefirstinitial@ht-sd.org format.
•    If you are using a web-based email program, you will either need a browser that is capable of directing the email link to your web email account, or you will need to take the intermediate step of copying the email out of the new message window that will open in your computers default email program (Eudora, Earthlink, Mac Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) and pasting it into your webmail program.  This capability varies between browsers and versions of browsers, based on their individual options, preferences, and configuration settings which makes it very difficult to assist everyone with this.
•    Reconfigure your browser:
    •    The Microsoft Internet Explorer browser can be set to open mail in a Windows Live account in addition to your computer’s email program, depending on your explorer settings.
    •    The Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and newer browsers, can be configured to work with Gmail, Yahoo Mail, and other email services in addition to your computer’s email program.
    •    The Opera 10 browser can be configured to work with a number of web based email services in addition to your computer’s email program.
    •    The Google Chrome browser can be configured to work with Gmail accounts if you have Google Apps installed.
    •    The Apple Safari browser can be configured to work with your default email program.
